Gibson Les Paul Custom 1972

Jeff Donahoe

Sunburst finish. Headstock repair, typical of old Les Pauls. Tuners were replaced, but the original waffle tuners are back on. Great condition, buckle rash on the back of the body, but none go through the finish to the wood. The pickups are embossed with the Gibson logo. This model of pickup was produced in 1972 only.

Condition 95% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Gibson Les Paul Custom 1972

Gryphon Strings

This Les Paul model is known at the "Fretless Wonder." This nickname is due to the very flat frets on the neck, which allows very low action -- the strings are able to lie close to the neck. This gives the player the sensation of playing with no frets. This guitar has Gibson-embossed pickups.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.8/10.

Gibson Les Paul Recording 1976

Olivia's Vintage

Very nice all-original condition, missing the pickguard. Rare white color, as most Les Paul Recordings have the natural finish.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.8/10.

Gibson Les Paul Custom 1974 Twentieth Anniversary Model

Coleman Music

1974 was the year Gibson released the 20th Anniversary model of the Les Paul, despite the fact that the Les Paul was introduced in 1952. These guitars have the distinctive "20th Anniversary" inlay on the 15th fret that is exclusive to this model. I acquired it with replacement tuners, but I have replaced them with the original waffle tuners.

Condition 90% original, new knobs.
Rating 9/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop 1973

Rob Wesley

Some green visible on the cracks on the top of the body. Nice crackling on the finish which gives it an old look that is sought after.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Tobacco Sunburst 1979

Ebay

The finish is average, not remarkable, but it is in excellent shape.

Condition 100% original, missing pickguard.
Rating 9.9/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop 1973

Rumble Seat Music

Very nice gold top finish, in better condition than many I've ever seen.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.8/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Cherry Burst 1973

Rob Wesley

The cherry burst finish is one of the nicest I've seen on a cherry Les Paul. I acquired this guitar with non-original tuners, but I have since then replaced them with the original tuners.

Condition 90% original, bad headstock repair.
Rating 8.5/10.

Gibson ES-120T 1964

San Francisco Pawn Shop via Ebay

Tobacco finish in very good condition. This guitar was owned by Drake Levin, guitarist for the 1960s on-hit wonder band Paul Revere and the Raiders (of Louie, Louie fame).

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Epiphone Century 1961

Rob Wesley

All original, except missing the white pickguard. Epiphone's entry-level thinline archtop. This guitar has been SOLD.

Condition 95% original.
Rating 9.6/10.

Gibson Melody Maker 1959

Ebay

Very nice tobacco sunburst finish in great condition. Melody Makers from the 1950s are a bargain compared to the Les Paul Juniors, but similar in sound and in looks.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.9/10.

Gibson Melody Maker 1967

Lark Street Music

This guitar has cracking on the finish that makes it look like an antique painting. Finishes that age in this manner are highly desirable.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.9/10.

Gibson Melody Maker 1967-1970

Jack's Music, Montreal

Unsure of the exact year. Very nice red color, but it has many nicks and scrapes and unfortunately some go through the finish to the wood.

Condition 80% original, replaced vibrola and knobs.
Rating 8/10.

Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville 1967

Rob Wesley

All original, except missing the mute mechanism that Gretsch included on many of their guitars. The binding is starting to rot, typical of these older Gretsches. Note the fake f-holes, which are painted.

Condition 98% original.
Rating 9.6/10.

Gretsch Single Anniversary 1961

Rob Wesley

The only flaw in this guitar is a small hole on the neck that has since been filled in. The f-holes on this one are real.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.6/10.

Neil Hebert Classical 1976

John Donovan

My workhorse. I was trained as a classical guitarist since a child. This guitar instrument was hand made by luthier Neil Hebert. Fine cedar top, restored in 2007 by Gérald Mercier of Bruand Guitars in Montreal.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Danelectro Shorthorn 3/4 Acoustic 1960s

Ebay

This guitar is a conversation piece but it sounds pretty good for a low-end acoustic model.

Condition 100% original?
Rating 9.7/10.

Danelectro DC-1 1959-1967

Guitar Emporium of Louisville

Danelectros were built as inexpensive guitars when they were launched in the 1950s. They have since then become collectible.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.
